BIOGRAPHY

Mahmoud Gharib Disoky El-Sherbiny was born on October 8, 1946. He received a B.Sc. degree with honors from Cairo University, Egypt, in 1968, an M.Sc. from Cairo University on a cooperation program with the University of Denmark at Copenhagen in 1972, and a Ph.D. degree from the Department of Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Salford, U.K, in 1975.
He joined the Department of Mechanical Design and Production Engineering at Cairo University in 1968 and was promoted to Professor of Machine Design and Engineering Tribology in 1986. During this session he was on leave as a research assistant at the Technical University of Denmark 1971, as a research associate at Salford University UK 1973-1975, as a Postdoctoral Research fellow at the Loughborough University of Technology UK 1975-1976, and as an associate professor at King Abdulaziz University KSA 1981-1986.
He founded the Egyptian Society of Tribology (EGTRIB) in 1987, the Tribology and Spare Parts Center (TSPC) at Cairo University in 1988, and The Scientific Journal of the Egyptian Society of Tribology in 2002. and The Arab Federation for Metrology (AFM) in 2007. He was elected the chairman of the EGTRIB in 1987 and a Vice President of the International Tribology Council in London since 1995. He is also the President of AFM since 2007.
He was appointed Director of TSPC in 1988, Vice Dean for Curriculum and Students affairs in 1994, Dean of Engineering at Cairo university 1995-2001, President of the National Institute of Standards 2005-2006, and President of Akhbar El-Youm Academy 2006-2008.
He published 75 reviewed articles in world-known journals and more than 70 papers in world-known conferences and local and regional journals.
He is the editor in chief for the EGTRIB journal, a member of the editorial board of the American Journal of Mechanical Engineering, and a reviewer of Materials & design (JMAD) Simulation Modelling Practice and Theory, Elsevier (JSMPT), The Tribology International Journal, and many world known and regional journals.
He acted as a counselor to both Ministries of higher education and of trade and industry from 2002-2010. He won several awards including the State Prize for Engineering Science 1980, the First Class Science Decoration of EGYPT 1981, the Arab Organization for Industrialization Award for the Best Industrial Project 1997, the Cairo University Appreciation Award in Engineering Science 2009, and the Cairo University Distinction award for Advanced Technological Science 2010.
He won the state Appreciation award and certificate of merit for his achievements in Engineering Sciences in 2014.
Dr El-Sherbiny holds 11 registered patents and recorded 7 Industrial models with full intellectual property rights.
