Dr. Rehab ElSiedy is an associate professor of Islamic Art and Archaeology at the Faculty of Archaeology, Cairo University. She earned her MA (2006) and PhD (2010) in Islamic Archaeology. She is a researcher at the Egyptian Heritage Rescue Foundation (EHRF) and a member of the Egyptian team for the Net Zero: Heritage for Climate Action project (ICCROM, funded by Swedish Postcode Lottery), and the First Aid and Resilience for Culture in Times of Crisis program. From 2007 to 2016, she was a member of the French archaeological mission working at Cairo's ancient city walls (IFAO). Also, she is an active member of ICOM. Her research interests focus on Islamic art, heritage, materials culture, museum collections, and exhibitions.
Since 2010, she has taught various heritage and Islamic art courses at Cairo University, as manuscripts an essential subject within their modules, so she received many professional training in materials culture and heritage, particularly in “Manuscripts and Paper conservation”, “Documentation of Heritage Using Modern Technology”, “Arabic Codicology”, “A Study of the Colours Used to Paints in Early Manuscripts- Islamic and Western”, “Introduction to Arabo-Islamic Manuscripts”, “First Aid to Cultural Heritage and Cultural Communication with Community in Times of Crisis” and Developing Integrated strategies for Heritage Safeguard, Climate Action, Disaster Risk Reduction and Peacebuilding-Net Zero”, which enhancing her experiences and researches.
Dr. ElSiedy has undertaken several postdoctoral research opportunities in art history till now, including a 10-month period at Freie Universität Berlin (2015) through the Erasmus Mundus program and a fellowship at the Aga Khan University's Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilizations (2018), funded by the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education. She has presented at numerous conferences, seminars, and workshops since 2003 till now.
