أصبحت تقنيات زراعة الخلايا و الأنسجة النباتيةِ الحديثة (الزراعة النسيجية) سلاحا هاما من أسلحة تطور علوم البيولوجيا الجزيئية و الهندسة الوراثية، و الصناعات الكيماوية و الصيدلية، و لقد نالها الجانب الأكبر من التطوير العملي و من التطبيقات التجارية. كما غَيّرتْ هذه التقنيات الزراعية من مفهوم بعض المزارعين و أصحاب المشاتلِ في جميع أنحاء العالم، وجعلتهم يسعون إليها كثيرا لحل مشاكل إكثار النباتات، حيث أدى تطبيقهاِ إِلى إستيلادِ النباتات والأشجار والشّجيراتِ التى كان يصعب إكثارها بالطرق التقليدية. و أسست كثير من الشّركاتِ العاملة فى المجال الزراعي حاليا مختبرات الزراعة النسيجية النباتية، وأجرت عملياتِ ذات نطاق تجاريِ لحد كبير فى هذا المجال و تستثمر فيها حاليا مبالغ طائلة.
