Dr. Sohair Ramadan Fahmy was born in Giza, Egypt, 1972. She received her M.Sc and PhD degrees in comparative physiology from the Department of Zoology, Faculty of Science, Cairo University in 2001 and 2006 respectively. Dr. Fahmy became associate professor in 2011. She has numerous internationally published papers and is a supervisor of more than 10 theses. She is very interested in animal surgery models that mimic human disease. Since 2012 she became involved in the ethical care and use of experimental animals in research, and was instrumental in establishing the first IACUC in Egypt in the Faculty of Science, Cairo University in 2013 where she acts as Vice Chairperson now. Dr. Fahmy is also a dynamic member in the recently formed Cairo University Committee for the Ethical Use of Experimental Animals in Teaching and Research.
