  • Medical experience & Duties:

As a Lecturer of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, I supervised the work of the assistant lecturers & residents in the outpatient clinics where I was consulted about the more difficult & challenging cases whereby I discuss the case with my subordinates & lay down an investigative & therapeutic plan of management for them. I also performed the more difficult ultrasound examinations, which include colour & power Doppler examination, as well as 3-D ultrasound examination.

In the labour ward, I act as a consultant (third on call) to help the junior staff make the more demanding decisions regarding patient management. I also perform the more serious operations such as peripartal hysterectomy & supervise the management of life threatening conditions such as D.I.C., eclampsia & postpartum haemorrhage.

I also attend a weekly operations list where I assist the junior staff members in basic gynaecological operations such as abdominal & vaginal hysterectomies. I also performed the more technically challenging operations such as those involving gynaecological malignancy as well as operative laparoscopy & hysteroscopy.

In addition to my duties as a Prof. of Obstetrics and Gynaecology I participate in two specialized units:

  • The Assisted Conception Unit of the OB/GYN Department.

I was a consultant at the ACU from its start in 2009 till 2012. I was involved in the daily running of the unit as well as to train OBGYN Department junior staff in the various aspects of assisted conception such as induction protocol application, as well as techniques such as ovum pick up and embryo transfer as well as MFER and cyst aspiration. The unit performed about 360 IVF-ICSI cycles per year.

  • The Cairo Fetal Medicine Unit (CAIFM).

I am a consultant in fetal medicine in the CAIFM unit from 2006 till the present. My duties include conducting and supervising detailed fetal anomaly scans, gynaecological ultrasound as well as diagnostic interventions such as amniocentesis and CVS for both research projects and diagnosis of referred cases.

I am involved in the organization of regular courses in Fetal medicine as well as Gynecological ultrasound at the  Fetal Medicine Unit at Cairo University Hospital. The courses include lectures on basic and advanced topics in Fetal medicine, Gynecology and infertility. The courses are very popular with about 60-120 obstetricians and radiologists usually attend each course.

  • Teaching Experience & Duties:

Once every week I give interactive lectures to undergraduate medical students in obstetrics & gynaecology. I also participate in the organization of the undergraduate clinical & oral examinations.
