Bio

Riham Bahi is an Associate Professor of international relations at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University.  Dr. Bahi is also a visiting Professor at the American University in Cairo. Dr. Bahi earned her PhD in International and Public Affairs from Northeastern University in Boston, where she also received her MA in International Relations and Comparative Politics.

 She has experience in program and curriculum development, capacity building programs for faculty and students, and running short-term study abroad programs in Egypt for American students.   She worked as the academic coordinator for Amideast Education Abroad Program, where she designed and implemented one of its kind Education program for American students studying in Egypt for one academic year.  Her expertise includes the following:

-          Developed a program to raise the capacity of Cairo University in attracting international students.

-          Designed and implemented a number of international programs for Harvard University, Boston University, Pittsburgh University, Northeastern University, and the American University in Cairo.

-          Worked as international education consultant for Bentley College and Bryant University.

-          Served on the international outreach committee at the American University in Cairo. 

-          Developed and implemented programs for strengthening the capacity of doctoral students in dissertation research and writing in partnership with the Population Council in Cairo, Egypt.

-          Developed interactive learning programs designed to introduce undergraduate students to practical application of academic research as well as various skills such as interpersonal dynamics in a cross-cultural setting, culture exposure and awareness and sensitivity toward multiculturalism.

-          Worked as the program coordinator for the Gender in Higher Education Project, in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and the Free University in Berlin and funded by the DAAD.

-          Worked as the coordinator for the curriculum development program at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, funded by the Ford Foundation.

-          Currently working on developing a new graduate degree in gender studies at Cairo University in cooperation with UN Women.  

-          Trainer in gender mainstreaming, integrating human rights in higher education, diversity management in higher education, and gender-sensitive teaching as well as democratization and transition.

-          Trainer in proposal writing and research design for graduate students as well as active learning techniques.

-          Trainer in professional and personal development, such as constructive negotiation techniques for social conflicts (based on the HARVARD method), peer coaching, creativity techniques for innovation and gender diversity management.

-          Participated in a number of research projects related to higher education. “Civic Responsibility in Arab Universities”, Lebanese Association of Education Sciences, Beirut, Lebanon, funded by Ford Foundation, 2014-2016. “Quality of Higher Education and Equity: Effectiveness of Political Science Programs in Public and Private Egyptian Universities”, the Social Research Center, the American University in Cairo, Cairo, Egypt,  funded by Ford Foundation, 2014- 2016. “University Governance in Egypt and Tunisia Post Arab Spring”, the Social Science Research Council, New York, USA, funded by Ford Foundation, 2011-2013.

Dr. Bahi has received many awards and honors, including a Fulbright Pre-Doctoral award and expert credentials from the Center for Effective University Teaching at Northeastern University and Cairo University award for international publishing. 

Her research interests include international relations and global governance, feminism and gender studies, global and transnational aspects of political Islam and  Egypt foreign Policy and U.S. Foreign Policy.
