Prof. Rawia Tawfik is an associate professor at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Politics from the University of Oxford and a Master of Science in Politics from Cairo University. Her research interests include issues surrounding African political economy. She co-ordinated research projects on the democratic developmental state in Africa and African regional integration for Partners in Development think tank in Cairo and the Africa Institute of South Africa in Pretoria respectively. Her post-doctoral research focuses on hydropolitics in the Nile basin, especially the impact of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) on hydropolitical relations in the basin. She was a Guest Researcher at German Development Institute in Bonn from February- July 2015 and a researcher at the same institute from July 2017-March 2018. She has a number of research papers, book chapters, and journal articles on Nile hydropolitics, regional integration, good governance and development in Africa, and Egypt's foreign policy towards Africa.
