Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Sufficient data pertaining to the impact of the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on pediatric cancer patients is still lacking. The aim of this prospective study was to describe clinical management and outcomes of COVID-19 in pediatric oncology patients.

PATIENTS AND METHODS: Conducted between May 1, 2020 and November 30, 2020, this study included 76 pediatric oncology patients with confirmed COVID-19. Remdesivir (RDV) was the antiviral therapy used.

RESULTS: The median age of patients was 9 years. Sixty patients were on first line treatment. Hematological malignancies constituted 86.8% of patients. Severe to critical infections were 35.4% of patients. The commonest symptom was fever (93.4%). Chemotherapy was delayed in 59.2% of patients and doses were modified in 30.2%. The 60-day overall survival (OS) stood at 86.8%, with mortalities occurring only among critical patients. Of sixteen acute leukemia patients in the first induction therapy, 13 survived and 10 achieved complete remission. A negative RT-PCR within 2 weeks and improvement of radiological findings were statistically related to disease severity (P = .008 and .002, respectively). Better OS was associated with regression of radiological findings after 30 days from infection (P = .002). Forty-five patients received RDV, 42.1% had severe and critical forms of infection compared to 25.7% in the No-RDV group and yet OS was comparable in both groups.

CONCLUSION: Most pediatric cancer patients with COVID-19 should have good clinical outcomes except for patients with critical infections. Cancer patients can tolerate chemotherapy including induction phase, alongside COVID-19 treatment. In severe and critical COVID-19, RDV might have a potential benefit.

Background: Reviewing and analyzing the Clinico-pathologic aspects of non-melanoma skin cancer of the head and neck (NMSCHN), type of management, prognostic factors, and disease-free survival (DFS) in a period of 5 years at the National Cancer Institute—Cairo University—Egypt. Materials and Methods: A retrospective study of two hundred patients with NMSCHN was treated at the National Cancer Institute—Cairo University—Egypt from January 2008 to December 2012. The mean follow-up was 6 months (1 - 84 months). Results: 117 males and 83 females with 90% ≥ 50 years old. The scalp (27.5%), the periorbital region (13%), the cheek (12.5%) and the nose (12.5%) are the main anatomical sites affected. BCC represented 71.5% with nodular type (79%) predominance; SCC represented 21% with GII (61.1%) the commonest grade. Surgery was the main modality of treatment (93%) with local flaps only (63.9%) and primary closure (14.7%) were the main surgical options following wide local excision. Positive and close margins were detected in 23.5% of excised specimens. No significant association was found between disease-free survival (DFS) and pathology, treatment modality, the occurrence of complications or safety margin status. Conclusion: NMSCHN lesions should be surgically excised in specialized high volume centers with readily available peripheral margin control and should be operated by senior experienced surgeons.

EsmatM.Abdelmoniem, S. A. Mazen, and E. E. Hassanein, "Management & Governance of Successful ERP Implementation in Egyptian Environment", The Fifth International Conference on Intelligent Computing and information Systems, 2011. Abstract

"Many organizations that implemented ERP systems have reported not satisfied impacts from these huge investments. According to extensive academic debates, the reasons of ERP systems implementation failures are the disconnection between them and organizational performance.
The ERP selection process is an important step in the future financial and operational success of any manufacturing or distribution organization, empirical research has shown that selecting an inappropriate system is a major reason for ERP implementation failures, in Egypt the success rate of implementing ERP systems is extremely lower than that in western companies. Thus, ERP implementation success in Egypt is treated according to some dependent variables []. Although many companies in developing countries may have implemented ERP systems to capture its benefits, there is a lack of examining their actual influence on ERP systems. In this paper, the researchers present framework for ERP selection and adopted a critical factors to provide the organization with the necessary information to make a well-informed, quantitative software selection, toward achieving a successful ERP implementation.
This research starts by focusing on assessing the ERP System implementation benefits, outcomes and The cost of ERP projects failure followed by the most cardinal sins of ERP implementation then we presented the framework of ERP selection criteria after that, the critical factors toward achieving a successful ERP implementation were defined, finally the role governance and influences on success of ERP system implementation in Egypt were presented."
