Aspects of War Neuroses in Pat Barker's Regeneration Trilogy,
, Giza, LAP Lambert Academic Publishing, 2012.
AbstractThis book examines the traumatic effect of the Great War on the characters in a Trilogy by Pat Barker - a British novelist. The Trilogy is comprised of Regeneration (1991), The Eye in the Door (1993), and The Ghost Road (1995). The research focuses on the symptoms of war neuroses suffered by the characters as a result of their horrific experiences in this war. Barker fuses fact and fiction in this work. Some of these characters are real literary figures like Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen, as well as, the psychiatrists practicing during the war like William Rivers and Lewis Yealland. World War I was a corner stone in the progress of military, as well as, civilian psychiatry as it encouraged many researchers to study the worst psychological outbreak of war neuroses in the history of the world. Nowadays war neuroses are referred to as PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).
