OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to measure the dimensions of the slot's top and base of passive self-ligating brackets of three commercial and available systems and to compare the measured dimensions with the manufacturers' published dimensions.

METHODS: Digital microscope was used to measure the slot's top and base of 40 Central incisor brackets by three different manufacturers, Carriere SLX (Ortho Organizer, USA), Damon Q (Oramco USA) and Smart Clip (3M Unitek USA). The measurements were taken after the doors of all brackets were removed and compared with the manufacturers' claimed dimensions.

RESULTS: All brackets showed a significant increase in dimensions from both the slot's top and base compared to the manufacturers' published dimensions. For the base of the bracket's slot, Carriere SLX brackets showed the least difference while Damon Q brackets had the greatest. Moreover, for the top of the bracket's slot, the Smart clip brackets showed the greatest difference. The percentage of difference between the actual measurements and the manufacturers' prescriptions shows that for the slot's base, Carriere SLX brackets had the smallest percentage increase by .36%, followed by Smart clip by 6.7% and the Damon Q brackets by 8.1%. While for the slot's top Carriere SLX had the smallest percentage increase by .72%, followed by Damon Q by 12.3% increase and finally Smart Clip brackets by 12.8%.

CONCLUSIONS: The actual measurements of passive self-ligating brackets from 3 manufacturers were larger than the manufacturers' published dimension. This amount of increase may affect the amount torque expression.

BACKGROUND: Tamoxifen is the standard endocrine therapy for ER+ breast cancer; however, many women still relapse after long-term therapy. 3-Bromopyruvate, a glycolytic inhibitor, has shown high selective anti-tumor activity in vitro, and in vivo. The aim of this study was to evaluate the possible augmentation of the effect of tamoxifen via reprograming cancer cell metabolism using 3-bromopyruvate.

METHODS: An in vitro screening of antitumor activity as well as the apoptotic, anti-metastatic, and anti-angiogenic potentials of the combination therapy were carried out using different techniques on breast cancer cell lines MCF7and T47D. In addition the antitumor effect of the combined therapy was done on mice bearing tumor.

RESULTS: Our results showed modulation in apoptosis, angiogenesis and metastatic potential by either drug alone; however, their combination has surpassed that of the individual one. Combination regimen enhanced activated caspases-3, 7 and 9, as well as oxidative stress, signified by increased malondialdehyde and decreased glutathione level. Additionally, the angiogenesis and metastasis markers, including hypoxia inducing factor-1α, vascular endothelia growth factor, and metaloproteinases-2 and 9 were decreased after using the combination regimen. These results were further confirmed by the in vivo study, which depicted a decrease in the tumor volume and angiogenesis and an increase in oxidative stress as well.

CONCLUSION: 3-bromopyruvate could be a valuable compound when added with tamoxifen in breast cancer treatment.

Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) are devices where bacteria generate electrical energy by oxidizing organic matter in wastewater. The implementation of MFCs on a commercial scale is limited due to electrode resistances, which are one of the key factors limiting electricity generation. This study presents a method to maximize the electrical power production from MFCs by coating the electrodes using nanomaterials which leads to prototyping novel electrodes having higher electrical conductivity than common electrodes. The voltage reached 1.234 V directly after operating the MFCs, with nanocoated electrodes, and showed voltage stability till the end of the 140 h interval with a peak value of 1.367 V with a maximum areal power density of 116 mW m−2 and a maximum volumetric power density of 15.6 mW m−3. However, the voltage of the control (without coating) was steadily increased to 0.616 V after 22 h with a maximum areal power density of 23.6 mW m−2 and a maximum volumetric power density of 3.2 mW m−3 then showed voltage stability till the end of the 140 h interval. It was found that the coulombic efficiency of the MFCs where its electrodes are coated with graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets was higher than graphene, carbon nanotubes, and the control in a descending order, respectively. By this method, it is possible to improve the electrical conductivity of the MFCs which results in increasing the generated electrical power by 4.9 times the conventional method. © 2022, The Author(s).

We exploited the fact that leukemic cells utilize significantly higher levels of S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) than normal lymphocytes and developed tools that selectively diminished their survival under physiologic conditions. Using RNA interference gene silencing technology, we modulated the kinetics of methionine adenosyltransferase-II (MAT-II), which catalyzes SAMe synthesis from ATP and l-Met. Specifically, we silenced the expression of the regulatory MAT-IIbeta subunit in Jurkat cells and accordingly shifted the K(m L-Met) of the enzyme 10-15-fold above the physiologic levels of l-Met, thereby reducing enzyme activity and SAMe pools, inducing excessive apoptosis and diminishing leukemic cell growth in vitro and in vivo. These effects were reversed at unphysiologically high l-Met (>50 microm), indicating that diminished leukemic cell growth at physiologic l-Met levels was a direct result of the increase in MAT-II K(m L-Met) due to MAT-IIbeta ablation and the consequent reduction in SAMe synthesis. In our NOD/Scid IL-2Rgamma(null) humanized mouse model of leukemia, control shRNA-transduced Jurkat cells exhibited heightened engraftment, whereas cells lacking MAT-IIbeta failed to engraft for up to 5 weeks post-transplant. These stark differences in malignant cell survival, effected by MAT-IIbeta ablation, suggest that it may be possible to use this approach to disadvantage leukemic cell survival in vivo with little to no harm to normal cells.

A finite element formulation is presented for the natural vibration analysis of pipes conveying fluids. The solution of the resulting quadratic eigenvalue problem generally yields complex eigenvalues and eigenvectors. The present study then develops a robust mathematical procedure that combines the real and imaginary components of the eigenvectors to form physically attainable (i.e., real) mode shapes. The procedure yields a family of solutions that is more general than previously known solutions. The well-known classical mode shape is shown to be recoverable as a special case from the present solution. The study provides new insights on the effects of viscous damping, axial compressive force, and the flexibility of intermediate pipe supports on the response. Additionally, the study develops a novel algorithm based on Hermitian angles between eigenvectors to automate the tracing of mode evolution in the frequency-velocity plots.

The study contains an introduction and a preface, six chapters and a conclusion.
The introduction provides reasons for selecting the topic and objectives of the
study, Approaches, methods, previous studies, sources of study, field study and the
difficulties faced the study. The preface includes a geographical glance on the state
of Khartoum and then follows the stages of the development of manufacturing
industries. The first chapter deals with the geographical distribution of
manufacturing industries and geographical factors affecting the manufacturing
industries in the state. Second Chapter discusses the industrial localization in the
state, factors of localization in every industry and industrial evaluation of
localization in the state in respect of the model of Hamilton. Third Chapter deals
with the size structure of the manufacturing industries. The fourth chapter analyzes
the problems of manufacturing industries. The fifth chapter deals with the future of
industrial development, Sixth Chapter examines the map of land use in Khartoum
Bahri industrial area as a case study The study concludes that the manufacturing
industries in the state of Khartoum passes through three stages: the first stage is
the stage of the traditional industries that prevailed during the period 1821 - 1956
during the Turkish rule , the rule of Mahdia and bilateral rule.. The second stage is
the manufacturing industries oriented to replace imports. This stage extends 1956 -
1992. The third stage is the stage of export-oriented industrialization which started
since 1992. The study concluded that the manufacturing industries in the state of
Khartoum are concentrated geographically in the localities of Khartoum,
Khartoum North, East of the Nile and Omdurman, respectively. A set of
geographical factors were impacted on the geographical distribution of
manufacturing industries; the most influential factors were water, land, power
sources, education services and population density. The study also realized that the
manufacturing industries in the state of Khartoum is localized in El mokhtar
administrative unit in the locality of Khartoum North and Omdurman North,
Omdurman South and El thwera elsnaate administrative Units in the locality of

Omdurman. It also localized in administrative Units of Khartoum, Khartoum West
and Khartoum East in the locality of Khartoum. The study also found that the
manufacturing industries in the state were dominated by the pattern of small and
medium industries. The study has completed to show a range of problems
affecting the manufacturing industries in the state; the most influential problems
were funding problems, different taxes and fees, poor administrative capacity and
competitiveness. The study deal with the effects of these problems, most notably
many industrial plants are out of work. The study of the problems resulting from
the manufacturing industries in the state show that the potential impact of
manufacturing on the Nile water pollution , contributing to climate change and
expectations of an increased incidence of malaria. In The future of industrial
development in the state, there will be several changes in manufacturing
industries. Qualitatively, Spatially, Functionally, as well as the trend towards
integrated industries. The study concluded that the levels of industrial use in the
industrial area of bahri are four types: The first type, blocks are the level of using
less than 50% of the total area of the block such as blocks (1&7).The second type,
blocks ranging rate of land use between 50-60%, such as blocks (2&6) . The third
type, blocks ranging rate of land use between 60-70%, such as blocks (3& 5&2
Kafoury. The fourth type, blocks represent using areas more than 70%, such as
blocks (4&8).
