Was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1963. She received the B.Sc. degree in communications and electronics engineering from Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University in 1985 (Distinction with Honor). In the same year, she joined Cairo University as a graduate student and Teaching Assistant in the Department of Engineering Mathematics and Physics. She received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Engineering Physics from Cairo University in 1990 and 1995, respectively. During 1993-1995 she joined the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, USA as a visiting researcher. She was engaged in research, development and fabrication of III–V multi-junction photovoltaic solar cells. In 1995 she became a faculty member in the Department of Engineering Mathematics and Physics, Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, where she is currently a full Professor. Her research has been directed toward the area of semiconductor devices with emphasis on photovoltaic solar cells, photo detectors, tunnel diodes and MOSFETs. Her research also includes nanostructures, photonic crystals, memristors, metamaterials and phononic crystals.
