Muhammad Al-Shorbagy is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacology & Toxicology at the Pharmacology Department, Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University. Al-Shorbagy has been awarded the BSc degree at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University in June 2000 graded Excellent with Honour. He pursued his studies being a junior teaching assistant and preparing for his Master's degree. In 2008, Al-Shorbagy was awarded the MSc degree for the thesis about the gastroprotective role of some micronutrients in indomethacin-induced ulcer. In 2009 Al-Shorbagy got engaged into the PhD program. He prepared a PhD thesis entitled “Study of the Anti-epileptic Potential of Some Anti-inflammatory Drugs in Experimentally-induced Epilepsy" and was awarded the PhD title in February 2012. The PhD thesis was awarded as the best thesis in Pharmacology & Toxicology during the 4th International Conference of the faculty in April 2013. Al-Shorbagy has many published papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings. He attended many national conferences, workshops and various training courses. Al Shorbagy speaks English fluently. He visited Germany in October 2012 during a DAAD program for implementation of equal opportunities among academics.
Al-Shorbagy has a solid background in the field of neuropharmacology and is currently involved in a research project funded by the STDF covering the development and characterization of a therapeutic vaccine intended for the treatment of multiple sclerosis. The multidisciplinary aspect of his research encompasses molecular mechanisms involved in various inflammatory disorders and diabetes. Dr Al-Shorbagy is also involved in the development and validation of orthogonal testing protocols for quality/safety assessment of biopharmaceuticals in partnership with the Bioanalysis Research Group at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University.
Al-Shorbagy has worked as a member of the pharmacology committee offering technical consultancy to the Central Agency of Pharmaceutical Affairs at the Egyptian Ministry of Health. He is also the Google Team Technical Lead for the FOPCU and the Ex-Director of the Faculty of Pharmacy IT Computer Center.
