Prof. Mohamed B. Argoun

Obtained his Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering at theUniversity ofToronto in 1982 and B.Sc in Aerospace Engineering fromCairoUniversity in 1969. Currently he is professor of Aerospace Systems Dynamics and Control at the Aerospace Department,CairoUniversity.

Between 1997and 1999 he participated actively in establishing the Egyptian Space Program and was its first director from 1999 to 2008.  During the period 1998-2003 he was the General Secretary of the Egyptian Space Research Council,  the body responsible for setting the strategy and space policy inEgypt. During the period 1997-to 2008 he was also the Head of the Space Sciences and Strategic Studies Division at the National Authority of Remote Sensing and Space Sciences and Manager of Egyptsat-1 satellite project which was launched on April 17, 2007.

Prior to joining Cairo University from 1988 to 1997 as Associate Professor Dr. Argoun was Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee (1983-1988) and a nuclear safety analyst at Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. Dr. Argoun research interests are in Systems Control Theory where he published over 40 scientific papers on Robust Control and Small Satellite Design which he is currently interested in.

In addition to engaging in development of Space Program in Egypt, Dr. Argoun is active in Control Theory research and in particular in Robust Control Theory where his publications and results are widely cited and quoted for more than 30 years from 1985 until present time. 

Professor  Argoun is actively interested in space policies and strategies of developing countries and in particular in development of small satellites and their technology and applications in developing countries specially in Africa and the Arab World. He wrote many articles about space programs in developing nations including a book (in Arabic) entitled: Outer Space and its Peaceful Uses (published by: Alaam Al Maarefa,Kuwait). Recently, he was invited to address the "Third International Congress on Social Responsibility" to be held in Buenos AIres from 10-11 of September 2015, as an invited speaker on "Social Aspects of Space Policies in Developing Nations".
