Bio

Dr. Barmelgy graduated from Cairo University, Faculty of Engineering with a Bachelors degree in Architecture Engineering. He received a diploma in Urban Planning also from Cairo University Faculty of Engineering, Architecture Department. He then traveled to continue perusing his education in the United States of America. He achieved two master degrees; the first being a Masters of Urban and Site Planning, Michigan University; and the second being Masters of Science in Urban and Regional Planning, Iowa University. Delving deeper into the field of Urban and Site Planning, Dr. Barmelgy, received his Doctorate of Philosophy in Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture from Michigan University.

 

After such outstanding efforts, Dr. Barmelgy retuned to Egypt where he has worked of a number of projects aimed at enriching urban and site planning in the Egyptian context. He opened up an office in 1965 where he monitored and worked on projects aimed at developing his beloved country. He also kept ties with his primary university, Cairo University, where he teaches courses in Architecture and Planning. He was elevated in rank until he became the Head of the Architecture Department.  

 

Dr. Barmelgy is one of the pioneers who have introduced the science of landscape architecture in Egypt. His researches have been used as main references for more than 50 years in the field. During this period, he supervised hundreds of researches contributing to the science in various fields especially in the field of urban planning. In the professional field, Dr. Barmelgy owned and established one of the pioneering firms in the field of planning, architecture and construction in Egypt. He is currently the Chair of the Planning and Architecture Scientific Committee for Promoting University Staff Members.
