Mazen Hassan is an Associate Professor of Comparative Politics at Cairo University, Egypt. He has a PhD degree in politics from Oxford University in 2011 and a Master’s degree in politics from Warwick University (UK).
He has been previously a visiting professor at Harvard University (Kennedy School of Government), Oxford University (Centre for the Study of African Economies), Hamburg University (Institute of Law and Economics) and the American University in Cairo.
For two years (2018-2020), he has been the director of the Centre for Political Research & Studies and Intercultural Dialogue (CPRSID) at Cairo University. His research interests include experiments and surveys, political economy, social norms, electoral systems and party systems.
His publications appeared in Democratization, Political Research Quarterly, Public Choice, European Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Economic Behaviour and Organization, Government and Opposition, Mediterranean Politics, Political Studies, and Electoral Studies. He also co-authored two books on the Egyptian political system in the transitional period following the 2011 revolution.
