Marie Thérèse Abdelmessih is an established scholar in Comparative Literary Studies; she published widely in interart and Intermedial Studies. She studied at the universities of Cairo, Essex and the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and was visiting scholar at Keynes College, University of Kent. She was Director of the MA Program, College of Graduate Studies, and Acting Vice-Dean for Academic Affairs & Research (Kuwait U). She is an elected member of the Executive Committee, International Comparative Literature Association (ICLA), elected member of the International Advisory Board and Associate Editors of the CLCWeb Comparative Literature and Culture Elected member of Board of Trustees, International Arab Fiction Prize, funded by the TCA Abu Dhabi, UAE in association with the Man-Booker Prize Foundation, London. Member, Advisory Board, National Centre for Translation, Cairo. Listed, “Profiles of Prominent Egyptian Women,” Women & Memory Forum (WMF) Cairo, Egypt. She was consultant and acted as juror for several regional and international academic instituions and organizations, among which are: the United Nations Arab Human Development Report; Global Research Project, National Research Foundation (Republic of Korea); CLCWeb, Purdue U (USA); Al Ein U (UAE). Tezpur U (India). Member of the editorial board of several regional academic journals among which are: The Annals of Arts and Humanities (Kuwait U); Arab Journal of Humanities (Kuwait U); Major books in Arabic: National Culture: International or Global Options (Cairo 2007; 2009); Visual and Verbal Cultural Representations (Cairo 2002); Transcultural Reading of Literature (Cairo 1997; Jordan 2005). Translator from and into English and Arabic of works in fiction, poety and criticism. Major translations: The Cambridge Encyclopedia of the History of Literary Criticism (editor, translator, and lexigropher, Cairo 2006); Janet Wolfe’s Aesthetic and the Sociology of Art (Cairo 1998).
