Smart Building (ARCN 303 - Level 3)

This course introduces main issues of smart buildings and their performance. It focuses on the definition of smart building. It presents students with international and regional experience on sustainable and mart buildings. It emphasis on two main topics: first on the smart building information systems (SBISs); and second on building control and diagnostics. The first module aims at exploring the importance of developing smart building and introducing principles of smart building. The second part covers building controls and diagnostics (BCDs). It concentrates on the empirical evaluation of the built environment (buildings and urban areas) including elements, components and systems. Additionally, it covers the interactions between building, occupants and environmental conditions from the building performance criteria view point (thermal, energy, lighting and others) and finally, this course portrays selected cases studies.
