Dr. Mai is graduated in the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University in 2003. Her field of specialization is comparative political systems .She got her Masters degree in Political Science in 2006 on the topic “The political rise of Iraqi Shiites after the American occupation 2003-2005”.
Then she had her PhD degree in 2011 with an excellent degree on the topic “Coptic demands between inclusion and exclusion: A field study 1991-2008”. She conducted many interviews with the Coptic Egyptian elite inside and outside Egypt in 2009 funded by the Fulbright Commission to collect data for her research. In addition to a survey allocated among a sample of Copts in Egypt to analyze the actual demands of the Coptic citizen.
She was selected as a post doctoral scholar at the University of California Los Angeles, UCLA for the academic year 2013/2014 where she gave many lectures on the Egyptian political system after June 30th 2013 ,in addition to a course on Middle Eastern Politics to undergraduates.
Dr. Mai is the sole author of the book “Copts between inclusion and exclusion”, published in 2012 ,Center of Arab Unity Press in Beirut and a co-author of the book “The struggle for a new political system: Egypt after the revolution, published in 2013, Al-Dar Al-Mesryah Al-Lubnanyeh in Cairo, and the co-author of the book “The state return: The evolution of the Egyptian political system after June 30th 2013”, published in 2015. She is also the sole author of the book “Minorities between state-society dynamics in post revolutionary processes”, published by Dictus Publishing, Germany,2014. She has also many published academic papers in many periodicals inside and outside Egypt.
