Bio

I am an Associate Professor at Cairo University, Department of Systems and Biomedical Engineering. I earned my B.Sc. and M. Sc. in Engineering from the department of Systems and Biomedical Engineering, Cairo University in 1985 and 1989 respectively. I then traveled to Germany where I studied at the renowned Aachen University of Technology from which he received his PhD in 1996.

My fields of interest include, but are not limited to; Complex Systems, Biomedical Engineering, Research Methodology, System Thinking and Learning Organization, Knowledge Management, Competency Models, System & Business Dynamics, Simulation and Modeling, Decision Making Analysis, Pattern Recognition, Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods, Management Information Systems, Technology and Innovation Management, Human Resources Development, Customers Behavior, Entrepreneurship, Online Business, and Strategic Management.

I was the CEO of TAYAIT (an IT company focusing on Enterprise Search Engine Platforms and Online Business) between: 2006-2010. I has also acted as the Executive Director of the Regional IT Institute (RITI) since 2004 till end of 2010, prior to which I was the Academic Advisor since 1996.

My teaching assignments range across several subjects at the Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctorate levels, including Stochastic Processes, Systems thinking/Dynamics, Research Methods, Business Statistics, Information Technology Strategy, and Dynamic Control Systems. Moreover I have been an adjunct professor at the University of Louisville, USA and at Maastricht School of Management, in the Netherlands. Also I was the Link Tutor for the Global Campus Program with Middlesex University, London, UK. I have also instructed in The Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Peru, Colombia, Suriname, Romania, Malawi and Dubai in the fields of Business Statistics, Quantitative Research Methods, Decision Making Methods, System Dynamics & Systems Thinking and Operations Management.

I have conducted different professional and executive training programs and workshops in the field of Decision Making Methods, Problem-Solving Techniques, System Dynamics and Systems Thinking, Knowledge Management, and Creative Thinking.

To date, I have supervised more than 500 Theses in Biomedical Engineering, Business Administration, Computer Science, and Business Information Technology as well as more than 40 senior projects in Systems and Biomedical Engineering, from which I gained a lot of insights in different business and technical fields. I have reviewed hundreds of research papers published in international journals and conferences.  

I was an active member in various associations including the Information Resources Management Association (IRMA) since June of 1999 and the International Society of System Dynamics since June of 2001 where I also served as president of its Egypt Chapter and have been a Policy Council member in the international society of system dynamics since 2007-2009. I have also participated in various conferences and workshops in fields of system dynamics, software engineering, biomedical engineering, information technology and knowledge management, entrepreneurship, and distance education among others.

I have more than 100 research publications published as book chapters in international books in the area of Knowledge Management, and is also published in the international journal and proceedings of international conferences held in Europe, USA and Canada. I am the co-author of a book

Also I worked as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Louisville, Kentucky, USA in the Computer Science Department and the Human Resource Department. In addition to acting as the Link Tutor in the Cairo, Egypt campus for the program offered by Middlesex University, London, Department of Computing Science and the Regional IT Institute to provide a Master of Science in Business Information Technology and a Master of Science in E-Commerce.

As a visiting Professor for the Maastricht School of Management (the Netherlands), I have had the opportunity to teach in various countries throughout the world, such as Europe (the Netherlands, Romania), South America (Peru, Columbia, Suriname), Africa (Egypt and Malawi), the Gulf region (Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE) and have gained exposure to teaching students from various cultures. Through the Maastricht School of Management, I have taught Systems Thinking and System Dynamics Applications in Business, Business Statistics, Decision Making Tools, Quantitative Methods and Research Methods for MBA and DBA (Doctoral Business Administration) programs.

I continue to teach at Cairo University, as well as in programs for the following universities: Middlesex University (UK), University of Louisville (USA), Maastricht School of Management (the Netherlands), American University in Cairo AUC, (Egypt).
