Khaled M. F. Elsayed received the Ph.D. in Computer Science and Computer Engineering from North Carolina State University in 1995 and the M.Sc. in Engineering Mathematics and the B.Sc. (honors) in Electrical Engineering from Cairo University in 1990 and 1987 respectively. He is currently a professor of Communication Networks and the head of the Computing Group in the Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering in Cairo University. Previously, he was the chief technical officer of the Embedded Wireless Division in SySDSoft which was acquired by Intel in March 2011. His work in SySDSoft focused on transforming the company from a design services company to a products-based company which resulted in the company owning IP for LTE and WiMAX protocol stacks. He also held positions at Nortel Wireless Systems Engineering at Richardson/TX and ITWorx. His work in Nortel was influential in the realization of the MTX-CDMA wireless product. Also, his work with ITWorx as chief architect resulted in the realization of the NetCelera network appliance that was acquired by SwanLabs and eventually by F5 Networks of the Silicon Valley.
Dr. Elsayed area of research is radio resource management in wireless systems, Internet of Things, embedded networked systems, and quality-of-service support in multi-service packet networks. He has about ninety publications in in refereed international journals and conferences with an H-index of 12 and ~850 citations. He was an editor for the IEEE Communications Magazine from Nov. 1998 till Dec. 2002. He has also been a member of the technical program committees and session chair for several IEEE, IFIP, and ITC conferences. He was the technical program co-chair for the IFIP MWCN’2003 conference in Singapore. He has also worked as an expert evaluator and panelist for the European Commission in Brussels for evaluating the research proposals submitted to the EU FP7/FP6/FP5 IST, PEOPLE, and TEMPUS programs. He is a senior member of IEEE.
