Economics of Finance

This introductory course provides a general survey of finance. It emphasizes the understanding of the principles and basic concepts and techniques applied in finance and their application in business enterprises. Topics covered include: present value analysis and discounting, security valuation, risk/return trade off, capital budgeting and financial analysis. Moreover, field work exposure will be attained through the analysis of real life domestic and international case studies and a field trip to the EGX. Familiarity with computer spreadsheets (Excel) will be expected.

By completing this course successfully, you will be able to understand the role, characteristics and functioning of Financial Markets, apply the concept of  time value of money  in valuation, understand the financial risk/return trade-off, learn how to price stock and bonds, perform financial ratio analysis, understand and apply capital budgeting techniques, and estimate the cost of capital
