Bio

Dr. Hatem Zeineldin received his Bachelor and Master degree in Electrical Power and Machines from Cairo University in 1999, and 2002, respectively. He obtained his Phd degree in 2006 from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at University of Waterloo. In 2006, he joined Smith and Andersen Electrical Inc. as an electrical engineer where he was involved in several projects related to distributed generation. During that period of time Dr. Hatem was also hired as a research consultant for a research project that was funded by Natural Resources Canada that focused on protection planning with renewable energy sources. In 2007, Dr. Hatem worked as a visiting professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he focused on developing new methods for islanding detection of renewable energy sources. In 2007, Dr. Hatem was on leave from Cairo University and joined Masdar Institute as an Associate professor in the Electrical Power Program. In 2012, Dr. Zeineldin served as an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University. During the period from 2013 to 2019, Dr. Zeineldin was on leave from Cairo University and joined Khalifa University as the Department Head of ECE. In Sept 2019, Dr. Zeineldin resumed his duties in the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University as an Associate Professor and currently is the head of the Power System Group in the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University. Dr. Hatem is the recipient of a couple of awards including University of Waterloo President’s Graduate Scholarship, Ontario Graduate Scholarship and Faculty of Engineering Scholarship. In 2012, he was awarded the Masdar Institute best teaching as well as best collaborative research award. Dr. Hatem’s main research interests include distribution system protection, islanding detection, micro-grids and smart grid design. Dr. Hatem is currently a senior IEEE member and an associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion and IEEE Transactions on Smart Grids.
