Bio

Dr. Hamdallah Zedan is Emeritus Professor of Microbiology and Immunology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University. He holds BSc. (Pharmacy) and M.Sc. (Microbiology) from Cairo University and Ph.D. (Microbiology) from Montreal University, Canada. He held various positions with Cairo University and United Nations.  He supervised and directed research programmes leading to M.Sc. and Ph.D. for more than 75 candidates and published more than 100 papers in various fields of research covering biodiversity, biosafety and intellectual property rights (IPR), recombinant DNA technology, vaccines and immunological products, microbial enzymes, radio-sterilization, microbial drug resistance, immobilized cell fermentation, mycotoxins, microbial contamination of pharmaceuticals. He is a member of many national and international scientific and advisory committees. He is Former Chairman and current Secretary of the Pharmaceutical Studies Committee Sector, Supreme Council of Universities, Egypt.  He is the former Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations/ Executive Secretary of the Biodiversity Convention from 1998 to 2005 and former Director of UNEP’s Biodiversity, Biotechnology, Biosafety and Genetic Resources programmes from 1984 to 1997. From 2007 to 2013, he was the Chairman and Managing Director of the Egyptian Company for Sera, Vaccines and Drugs (VACSERA).
