Dr. Bekhit has more than 20 years of experience as a researcher and consultant in environmental projects related to water resources in general and surface and subsurface hydrology in particular. Dr. Bekhit obtained his Ph.D. in 2004 from the University of Nevada, Reno, USA, in the field of contaminant hydrogeology. Dr. Bekhit has many papers published in international journals with high impact factors in the field of groundwater and contaminant hydrogeology. Since July 2009 till present, Dr. Bekhit has served as a consultant to the Nile Water Sector of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation dealing with evaluating and analyzing cooperative projects between Egypt and the Nile basin countries. His major research interest is in numerical simulation of hydrologic systems including the development and application of numerical models that allow for a better understanding of the system and allow for decision making within an uncertain environment. He is currently a professor of water resources at Cairo University Faculty of Engineering, where he is teaching several courses including groundwater hydrology, contaminant transport, water resources engineering, and water resource systems. Dr. Bekhit involved in the design, running, teaching, and currently, supervising: Water Engineering and Environment (WEE) Bachelor program at Cairo University (the first civil engineering Bachelor's degree with specialization and water and environmental management. In addition, he is the executive coordinator for the Shared Water Resources Diploma of Cairo University, a 1-year diploma specialized in shared water resources management hosting candidates from the Nile Basin. Dr. Bekhit attained experience in managing, coordinating, and directing donor-funded programs through executing several projects funded by USAID, STDF, GIZ, NBI, and other national organizations. Dr. Bekhit’s consulting projects include water resources projects, groundwater modeling, subsurface hydrology, contaminant transport, wadi hydrology, flash flood protection, spate irrigation, and dams design.
