Dr. Hala El Said is currently the dean of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science (FEPS), Cairo University.
Throughout her academic journey, she managed to achieve key milestones not only in the academic and research arenas but also in the overall financial and banking sectors.
Following her belief in the power of youth, El Said played a recognized role in empowering FEPS students over the past 18 years. She was the initiator and co-founder of several students’ activities inside the University campus – namely, the simulation models. These models aim at boosting and empowering the students’ capabilities and skills throughout their academic years.
Over her long academic career, she played a dynamic role in bridging the gap between the university graduates knowledge and the skills required at the real workplace. As the executive director of the Egyptian Banking Institute (EBI) for 8 consecutive years, El Said managed the institute with the vision to create a professional financial training arm applying international best practices to develop the technical and managerial skills of the financial sector professionals in Egypt and its surrounding region. She led a group of experts in the Egyptian Banking Institute (EBI) and a number of consultants to achieve international accreditation and be the first ACCET accredited banking and financial training institute in Egypt and the region.
El Said had actively left a positive impact wherever she operated. With the dream for a better Egypt, she proudly served as an advisor to the Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) and she was also a member of the board of trustees of the Anti-Money Laundering Unit at the CBE, and in the past served as a board member of Arab African International Bank.
She was nominated from the top 50 influential women in the Egyptian economy by Amwal El Ghad magazine – a well-recognized financial magazine. She always focused in her research work on critical economic and societal topics aiming at assessing the international economic status and bridging to addressing the local market gaps and needs.
Her research interest always included topics that are crucial to the Egyptian economic development. Dr. El Said is the prestigious author of a wide range of internationally acclaimed research papers, studies and reports on diverse topics related to the financial sector, international finance, privatization and economic reform, such as: Bank Mergers, SMEs access to finance, Corporate Governance as well as the Role of the State in Credit Risk.
Dr. El Said leads a prominent role in the domain of public service as she is an active member of both the Egyptian Association for Protecting Competition and Egypt at Work Advisory Committee of Nahdet El Mahrousa. She has also been a member of such NGOs as Our Children Our Future Foundation and MENA Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP) at the World Bank.
