"Dr. Abd-Allah is a Professor of Neurology and Stroke Medicine at University of Cairo. He graduated from the prestigious Kasr Alainy School of Medicine, Cairo University in 1994. Subsequently, he completed his Residency training in Neurology at the same institution, culminating in Masters, and Medical Doctorate in Neurology. Following his residency training, he undertook a number of post-doctoral fellowships and training opportunities in both Europe, and USA.

His main clinical and research interests lie in Stroke Medicine, Neurosonology and Interventional Neurology. He pioneered the Neurovascular Ultrasound Diagnostic Unit at Cairo University Hospitals in 2006. In this unit he has studied the largest case series of Carotid Atherosclerosis among Egyptians, and demonstrated the low prevalence of clinically relevant Carotid Artery Disease among Egyptians despite the high prevalence of Stroke, in the general population. The discrepancy from the research data raised a number of research questions such as; are there any other hidden causes for stroke among Egyptians? Currently, this is the focus of Stroke research in Egypt. He has also conducted an innovative cadaveric research project, through which he pioneered a new technique for non-invasive imaging of the tiny spinal vasculature, using ultrasound. This research was a cutting-edge discovery in this field.

Dr. Abd-Allah has volunteered a significant part of his professional life to professional organizations. He has been a member of the World Stroke Organization (WSO) since 2006, has sat on the Board of Directors from 2012, representing Middle East and North Africa region. He has contributed as an active member in the WSO guidelines and membership sub-committees, participating in most of the subcommittee meetings and action plans, sharing decision making and future planning.

He played a pivotal role in the inception of the African Academy of Neurology (AFAN) during the historical meeting in Dakar, Senegal, in August 2015. He was chosen as a Vice-President representing North Africa and currently Chair’s the Education sub-committee. The Mission of AFAN is to represent and unify all African Neurologists through their National Neurological Societies, developing optimal neurological education initiatives for future generations of Neurologists and those working in the Neurosciences, and decimating the most up to date and evidence-based, knowledge on the current advances in the Neurosciences.

Dr. Abd-Allah is a recognizable international figure, actively participating in large scientific bodies such as the Cerebrovascular Global Burden of Disease (GBD) group, the International Stroke Genetic Consortium, and Neurosonology Research Group of the World Federation of Neurology (WFN). Additionally, he is a board member in the Communication and Publication Committee of the WFN representing the Arab communities. Also, He is a reviewer and a member of the editorial board for a number of peer reviewed and, high ranked journals including Neurology, Neuroimaging, Frontiers of Neurology, European stroke journal and the journal of Vascular Interventional Neurology.

He continues to publish in the field of Cerebrovascular Disease and Stroke. One of his most important achievements was the development of the Arabic version of NIHSS. In the Arab world, until now the NIHSS has always been taught in English and left to the individual clinician to create his/her own Arabic version for their practice.  He extensively studied the epidemiology of Stroke in Egypt and concluded that the burden of Stroke and high prevalence of Stroke risk factors in Egypt are alarmingly high. He believes that grass-roots initiatives are required to educate citizens and communities about the signs and symptoms of Stroke.

He has presented and lectured extensively at the local and global scale, and received several prestigious awards from national and international scientific bodies.  Currently, he is working on his book “Stroke in the 21st century”, through which he hopes it contributes to the growing literature on Stroke".
