I have a long experience in both academia and industry. I have had the privilege of teaching, research, and working internationally in the USA, Germany, and Egypt. I am teaching several courses related to computer and software engineering. As the Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-PI, I worked on several funded research projects over the past 20+ years. (2021-2023), I am serving as the PI of a newly image processing funded research project in cooperation between National Institutes of Health (NIH) in USA and the Science and Technology Development Fund (STDF) in Egypt. (1998-2000), I served as the research scientist on a medical imaging research project at the Computer Vision and Image Processing (CVIP) Lab, Electrical Engineering Department, University of Louisville (UofL), Kentucky. (2012-2014), I served as the PI of the “Nerve Locator Design Enhancement, Manufacturing & CE Marking” project, which was funded by the Information Technology Industry Development Agency, ITIDA - Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, MCIT, Egypt. As Co-PI participated in the establishment of the three million Rehabilitation Engineering and Bionics lab at the Systems & Biomedical Eng. Department, Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University.
2015 –2018 - Served as the coordinator of “OpenMed” project. OpenMed is an international cooperation project co–funded by the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education (HE) program of the European Union involving five partners from Europe and nine from South–Mediterranean (S–M) countries (Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, and Palestine). The overarching goal of OpenMed is to raise awareness and facilitate the adoption of Open Educational Practices (OEP) and Open Educational Resources (OER) in the S–M countries, with a particular focus on HE.
Served as a member of the International Program Committee (IPC) of the 42nd Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, July 20th – 24th, 2020. Served as the chair of CIBEC 2018 conference that is the 9th Cairo International Conference on Biomedical Engineering, sponsored by the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, December 2018 in Cairo, Egypt.
My experience is not limited to academia, but also hands-on experience working as a trusted provider of consulting services to many software and healthcare organizations Served as the General Director of the Center for Advanced Software and Biomedical Engineering Consultations (CASBEC), which provides a wide range of ICT, biomedical, healthcare consultancy services, trainings, and community services. I have a profit oriented management experience with proven technical, managerial, and business skills. I have valuable technical, academic, and industrial skills that produced many research papers and three USA patents.
