A new application of the recently developed ratio difference spectrophotometric method for the determination of ternary mixtures with overlapped spectral data

Determination of ternary mixtures with overlapped spectra has always been a challenge facing spectrophotometry. A new application of the recently developed ratio difference spectrophotometric method was applied for the determination of a  ternary mixture with severely overlapped spectral data at certain points in their ratio spectra, a division step directly followed by calibration graphs construction relating the difference between those points and the corresponding concentration of each compounds, thus keeping the simplicity and minimal data manipulation advantages offered by the ratio difference method.

The proposed method was applied for the analysis of betamethasone, clotrimazole and benzyl alcohol in laboratory prepared mixtures and in their pharmaceutical formulation. The suggested method was validated according to USP 2005 guidelines and can be applied for routine analysis in quality control laboratories.
