Asmaa Youssef was born in Cairo on October 1st, 1989. In 2006, she started her B.Sc. studies in Environmental Agriculture (English program) at Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University. In 2010, she obtained her B.Sc. degree with a total of excellent grade with honour. Since 2011, she has worked for Plant Pathology Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University as a teaching assistant. In the same year, she received a research grant and she was the principal investigator of a research project entitled "The National Project for Production of Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) Tuber Seeds by Using Tissue Culture Technique, Phase (1)" funded by CU/UNDP MDGs Awareness and Research Initiative. In 2012, she obtained her preparatory Master's degree in Plant Pathology with a total of excellent grade with honour from Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University. In 2013, she was granted the German Egyptian Research Short Term Scholarships offered by DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) to work on a research project entitled "Production of Potyvirus-resistant potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) plants by transferring a gene encoding a recombinant antibody against the viral protease NIa" at Department of Plant Biotechnology, Institute of Plant Genetics, Leibniz University Hannover. In 2014, she was granted a scholarship within the Swedish Institute Study Scholarships (Category II) for studies in Plant Biology M.Sc. Program at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU). During her M.Sc. studies, she worked on two thesis projects about characterization and sequencing of Potato virus Y infecting potato in Sweden.
