Bio

Basem Ahmed studied veterinary medicine in Cairo University, Egypt (2002- 2007). Received his graduate certificates from the same university on his works on influenza virus vaccines. He had been trained on Equine herpes virus genome manipulation at the free university of Berlin, Germany (2019). He is the current chairman of the department of virology, faculty of veterinary medicine, Cairo University, board member in the Egyptian society of virology and Editor-in-Chief for the journal of virological sciences (the official journal of the Egyptian society of virology). Basem is working now with multiple teams on detecting and tracking animal viruses and their evolution, developing and refining Animal viruses' diagnostics and vaccines, and one health.

As a virologist, Basem is an expert in veterinary vaccine design, manufacture, evaluation, marketing, and support. Basem is the chief technical officer at Egyvac, former R&D manager at vaccine valley, and former technical director at DRJow. He had an H-index of 6, published 30+ peer-reviewed research articles and participated in 5 research grants: 2 of which as the principal investigator. His major research interests are virus evolution, novel virus diagnostics, viral vaccines and one health.
