Nephrology training:
- During my residency I worked in Kaser Al ini renal unit (one of the largest centers for nephrology in Egypt) receiving patient from all the country being tertiary referral center. I mastered the different techniques for vascular access (central lines juglar, subclavian and femoral) and acute PD catheter insertion and Renal biopsy. I was involved in all the activities including RRT, transplantation pre and post operative as well as outpatient follow up.
- While being assistant lecturer, lecturer and associate professor, I continued working in the nephrology department, participating in scientific, teaching, clinical and research activities.
- I spent two years in the nephrology department of Necker Hospital- France (Directed by Professor JP Grunfeld). These two years period were sponsored by a grant of The International Society of Nephrology. During these two years, I had successfully passed a specialty training in nephrology and obtained a Specialty Diploma I Nephrology.
- I spent also three months training in the department of renal transplantation and nephrology critical care- Necker Hospital (Directed by Professor H Keris).
Training Courses :
- I have trained in the molecular genetic Lab at the National Research Center, for DNA extraction and PCR techniques as well as other molecular genetic techniques.
- Attending the educational program for university diploma of Human Genetics (100 hours), Paris V, 1999/2000.
- Fourth ERA-EDRA Training course in nephrology, Nice, France, September 18-19, 2000.
- Attending the educational courses in Pediatric Nephrology diploma - Paris V, 2000/2001.
- Training course on renal replacement therapy organized by CUEN (Collège Universitaire Enseignants Néphrologie) from 17-19 June, 2001.
- Continuing medical education course (27 hours of category 1 credit toward the Physician recognition award), ASN/ISN World Congress of Nephrology, at San Francisco, California on October 13-17, 2001.
- Training course in prevention of professional risk associated with laboratory research work, organized by Institute National de la Santé et de la recherche Médicale, France, March 28-30, 2001.
- Training course on development managerial skills, organized by FLDP from 5th to 7th February, 2007
Teaching experience:
- Since I have been appointed as a resident of Internal medicine and nephrology, I have been involved in clinical training and supervision of house officers and last years undergraduates.
- I used to prepare daily clinical lessons and round exams under supervision of senior faculty staff.
- After being upgraded to assistant lecturer degree, I became involved in teaching clinical skills and problem solving to undergraduate students. I had passed a training course organized by cairo university to prepare the university professor from 14th February to 3rd of March.
- After my up grade to lecturer degree, I have been involved in all aspects of teaching process clinical, theoretical and evaluation aspects.
- In year 2006-2007, I has participated as active member in the undergraduate curriculum and teaching committee.
- I have attended three courses organized by FLDP to improve my teaching skills
- Curriculum development, evaluation of teaching and teaching for small and large groups.
Research Experience :
- I initiated and conducted a research project aimed at detection and gene linkage analysis of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease among Egyptian population. This was under the supervision of Professor Rashad Barsoum, Professor Yehia Zakaria Gad (assistant professor of Molecular Genetics at National Research Center), and professor Nagwa Eid Professor of Internal Medicine, Cairo University. The project was done in collaboration with the molecular genetic lab at New Mexico University USA), under the supervision of Professor G Zager.
- I have been engaged in a research project– with Pr. Knebelmann (Professor of Nephrology Necker Faculty of Medicine- Paris V)-aiming at identifying the molecular pathogenetic mechanisms of ADPKD. I have worked for this for about two years, in INSERM Unit 507, Necker Hospital, Paris, France. I successfully got my Master degree in molecular biology (cell differentiation and integrated function)
- I also completed a research work studying the effect of proteinuria among other clinical and laboratory parameters in induction of apoptosis in resident glomerular cells in different types of glomerulonephritis. This research work was supervised by Professor Rashad Barsoum, Professor Dawlat Belal, Professor of Internal Medicine and nephrology, Cairo University, and also Professor Magdy Francis, Professor of Pathology, Cairo University.
- After being upgraded to lecturer degree, I started initiating my personal research work in fields of internal medicine and nephrology.
- I attended a course organized by FLDP (Faculty and leadership development program) in Research methodologies and preparing articles and international publications.
