Dr. Ameera Akl

I am an assistant professor at the Faculty of Engineering’s Department of Architecture at Cairo University. I hold a PhD from the School of Architecture and Cities, University of Westminster, completed in 2023, where my research focuses on community-centred design, temporary urbanism, adaptive reuse and co-production in the global South, with a particular emphasis on Cairo.

In 2018, I received the Post Graduate Certificate of Special Study in Supporting Learning from the University of Westminster and was awarded Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK. During my doctoral studies, I was appointed as a research Associate at the University of Westminster on two interdisciplinary research projects: "Green space use for people's wellbeing during COVID19" (2019-20) funded by the Sustainable Cities and the Urban Environment research community (SCUE) and "Adaptation of the public realm to COVID19 and the impact on future planning and design of sustainable and healthy cities" funded by the Quintin Hogg Trust (2020-2021).

Prior to my PhD, I completed an MSc (Distinction) and BSc (Distinction with Honours) in Architectural Engineering from Cairo University.
