Bio

Chérine Chams El-Dine is Assistant Professor of Political Science at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science (Cairo University). She completed her PhD in Political and Social Sciences at the European University Institute (Florence - Italy), and her MA in Comparative Analysis of Political Areas at Sciences Po Paris.

From September 2012 to January 2013 and in 2014, she was Research Fellow at the Stiftung Wissenchaft und Politik (SWP - Berlin). In 2011-2012, she was Lecturer in Middle Eastern Politics at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies (University of Exeter - UK). Her research interests lie in the resilience of authoritarianism and the transformation process in the Middle East, including political-business elites’ connections, social movements and civil-military relations, with a special focus on Iraq.
