I graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy in May 1996 with the general grade Excellent with honors and I was ranked 6th among a total of 550 students. At the same year, I was appointed as a teaching assistant at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Faculty of Pharmacy. In 2000, I was accepted to do graduate studies and pursue my PhD at the University of Illinois at Chicago as I joined the Pharmaceutical Biotechnology track that belonged to the College of Pharmacy. For several years I was involved in a remarkable project that aimed at finding potential new sites for antibiotic action in the ribosome.
I earned my PhD in 2006 then I spent an extra year in the lab after I was done as a postdoctoral research associate in Chicago (2006-2007). Driven by the desire to enhance my teaching skills, I returned to Egypt and assumed a lecturer position at Cairo University between 2007-2008, where I was Involved in teaching several microbiology and Immunology related courses, also, I did part time teaching at Beni Suef University, I was involved at several research project the that time at Cairo University. In addition, I worked as a part time consultant for ATOS pharmaceutical, a company involved in the production of herbal products as I managed the upgrades of their Microbiological quality control laboratories at the spring of 2008. At the summer of the same year I returned back to the USA to start a postdoctoral fellowship at Wadsworth Center which is the research division of the New York State Department of Health where I pursued structural Biology studies and particularly Cryo-Electron Microscopy of bacterial and mitochondrial ribosomal complexes.
During that time I started serving as a reviewer and associate editor for peer reviewed publications. I Participated in Workshops on Single Particle Reconstruction, and Modeling of Cryo-Electron Microscopy Density Maps at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas in December 2008 and January 2010. In January 2011, I returned back to my position as a lecturer at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University where I resumed my teaching responsibilities as well as supervised graduate students. I have been promoted to associate professor degree in January 2013.
