History of Arab and European civilizaton
The course will be divided into three parts. It starts with a bird's eye view on concepts and approaches to civilization studies. This part also situates in terms the politics of culture and the paradigms shifts.
The second part will deal with a semi-survey of respective histories, shedding light on origin, evolution of each stage of human history by focusing on, in historical view, the rise and fall of European civilization, the rise of Muslim world and the creation of the Middle East. This section provides the historical canvas for the third part which will be designed to bring one of the contemporary issues or (paradoxes) into focus and explains it through the historical reflection through one main theme that is the image of "other" in both Western and Arabian minds.
