Eltanany, "Chemometric quality assessment of Paracetamol and Phenylephrine Hydrochloride with Paracetamol impurities; comparative UV-spectrophotometric implementation of four predictive models.", Spectrochimica acta. Part A, Molecular and biomolecular spectroscopy, vol. 265, pp. 120308, 2022. Abstract

Spectrophotometric data analysis using multivariate approaches has many useful applications. One of these applications is the analysis of active ingredients in presence of impurities. Four chemometric-assisted spectrophotometric methods, namely, principal component regression (PCR), partial least-squares (PLS), artificial neural networks (ANN) and multivariate curve resolution-alternating least squares (MCR-ALS) were proposed and validated. The developed chemometric methods were compared to resolve the severely overlapped spectrum of Paracetamol (PAR) and Phenylephrine HCl (PHE) along with PAR impurities namely, P-Aminophenol (PAP), P-Nitrophenol (PNP), Acetanilide (ACT) and P-Chloroacetanilide (CAC). The four multivariate calibration methods succeeded in simultaneous determination of PAR and PHE with further quantification of PAR impurities. So, the proposed methods could be used with no need of any separation step and successfully applied for pharmaceutical formulation analysis. Furthermore, statistical comparison between the results obtained by the proposed chemometric methods and the official ones showed no significant differences.

Abstract

The present study investigated the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in 14 Egyptian mango specimens collected from three different regions and of different cultivars (cvs). VOCs were extracted via solid-phase microextraction, followed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis. The results obtained for sesquiterpene hydrocarbons' qualitative abundance were represented by 28 peaks, whereas monoterpene hydrocarbons amounted for the highest levels in most of the mango cvs. Multivariate data analyses were employed for sample classification and identification of markers. Unsupervised principal component analysis revealed that "zebdia" cv from the three origins combined together being enriched in terpinolene. Moreover, supervised orthogonal partial least square-discriminant analysis identified β-terpinene and ()-geranylacetone in the premium "awees" cv. The impact of probiotic bacteria on mango juice aroma was further assessed revealing no potential changes in the composition. This study provides the first comprehensive insights into Egyptian mango aroma and reveals that the cv type overcomes the geographical origin in their aroma profile.

:  Malnutrition is well-known to yield high morbidities and it has pre-eruptive and post-eruptive consequences. The objective of the study was to evaluate the prevalence of Hypomineralized Second Primary Molars (HSPM), Molar Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH) and dental caries in malnourished children, as well as addressing the relation between types of malnutrition and the dental morbidities. This is a cross sectional analytical study. A consecutive sample of 54 malnourished cases aged 5-10 years and presented to the Outpatient Clinic of Pediatric Dentistry Department, Faculty of Dentistry, Cairo University across 6 months period were examined for HSPM, MIH - using the  European Academy of Pediatric Dentistry criteria - and dental Caries using def/ DMF indices. Outcomes were the presence or absence of MIH and HSPM and their levels measured as percentage as well as Caries Indices. Exposures were types of malnutrition and the socioeconomic status.     The mean age of study participants was 7.10 ± 1.34 years. HSPM and MIH were found in 47.2% and 45.2% of the study participants respectively, while dental caries was observed in 83% and 64.3% for primary and permanent teeth respectively. There was co-occurrence between HSPM and MIH in 39% of the cases. HSPM level was significantly different in various types of malnutrition. It showed significant difference between the stunted group (median HSPM of 14.2%) and the overweight or obese group (median HSPM of 0.0%) (P value 0.01). MIH level showed significant differences between the stunted group (median MIH of 19.4%) and overweight or obese group (median MIH of 0.0%) (p value 0.001), as well as between the stunted group (median MIH of 19.4%) and wasted group (median MIH of 0.0%) (p value 0.025). Malnourished children have high prevalence of dental abnormalities. HSPM could expect the presence of MIH.
