AbdEl-Monem El-Sharkawy holds both a B.S. and a M.S. degrees in systems and biomedical engineering, from Cairo University. He received a M.S. and the Ph.D degrees in electrical and computer engineering from the Johns Hopkins University. Early in his career, his research work was on ultrasound medical imaging related topics. He has been involved with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for more than 14 years now. His research work includes, signal processing, MR thermometry, static magnetic field stability, RF coil design, human MR phosphorus spectroscopy, human metabolic energetics experiments, MR RF safety and power deposition monitoring, interventional MRI, SPECT-MR and MRI acoustic noise reduction. One of his articles on high field performance of the MR loopless antennae was featured as the cover picture for the May, 2008 issue of the Medical Physics Journal. His general research interests are in the field of Medical physics and instrumentation. He is currently an associate professor in systems and biomedical engineering, Cairo University.
