    أصبح للمعلوماتية الحيوية و استخدام الكمبيوتر دوراً هاماً في فتح مجالات جديدة مع بداية ثورة القرن العشرين لعلوم البيولوجيا الجزيئية و الكمبيوتر. كما أصبح استخدام برامج الكمبيوتر أمراً ضرورياً للاستفادة منها في فهم ومعرفة بعض المعلومات البيولوجية. نتيجة لذلك فإن العديد من برامج الكمبيوتر التي تخدم مجال البيولوجيا الجزيئية متاح بصورة جيدة في يومنا هذا متضمناً ذلك البرامج التي تُستخدم في تحليل البروتين و الأحماض النووية بالإضافة إلى قواعد البيانات الدولية و بنوك الجينات.
