Zainab Magdy graduated top of her class from the Department of English Language and Literature, Faculty of Arts at Cairo University. She is an assistant lecturer at the Department and has been working there since 2010. She has a Masters of Arts from the Department of English entitled: "Performing War: A Study of the Works of Suheir Hammad and Heather Raffo" in 2015. She has been writing creatively and acting in theater since 2008. After she started acting with the Department Theater Troupe in 2008, Magdy has worked with several independent theater directors as an actress and also as an assistant director. She has also studied theater directing at the American University in Cairo as an auditor in 2013. For the past years she has been part of writing workshops that aim at writing for storytelling and performance with a gender sensitivity in mind; the latest of these workshops is 'The Odd Ducks' Project, which started its' work two years ago. In 2011, Magdy started writing plays and has been a resident playwright at the International Residencies Program at the Royal Court Theater in London in 2013. Stage readings of her first play "Rivo-loo-shun" took place in Heidelberg, Germany, and in San Francisco, California.
