I am affiliated to NCI of Cairo University as Associate Professor radiation oncology
National Cancer Institute is a specialized hospital and academic institute affiliated to Cairo University. The department is equipped with 5 Linear accelerators, 2 Cobalt-60 machines, a brachytherapy unit for various low dose and high dose rate intracavitary applications, HDR interstitial therapy techniques, and 3D treatment planning system, IMRT, SRS as well as SRT. The department accepts on average of 3500 new patients every year. The medical physics department affiliated to NCI Cairo is highly equipped with full dosimetry and QA systems and considered as reference Physics lab for ARE.
Job description Involved in direct cancer patients’ care including inpatients as well as outpatients.
Radiotherapy of cancer patients with all the modern techniques of radiotherapy including
o Conventional planning clinically and with the simulator
o CT planning, 3D conformal radiotherapy,
o Uses of different mega voltage machines (Cobalt and Linear Accelerator) and electron beam in the management of all types of cancer.
o Brachytherapy (Manual and after loading { High dose rate and Low dose rate} ) Including intracavitary and interstitial application
o Stereotactic radiotherapy
o Total body irradiation for bone marrow transplantation
o Total skin irradiation
Teaching for trainees registrar in radiotherapy department and instructions of house officer radiographers and post graduate interns
Supervision for the postgraduate candidates doing MSc in radiation Oncology
Also, I worked as Deputy Director of Damietta Cancer Institute (DCI) as part time 2 days a week.
DCI is one of the biggest 6 cancer centers established by MOH, Egypt responsible for treating the patients, early detection, screening and prevention of cancer. I was responsible about establishing the Oncology computer system of the hospital, National Cancer Registery of the North East area of Egypt. Besides that, I was working as Radiation Oncologist responsible about treating H&N cancer, Lymphoma, Gynaeoncology and Total body irradiation
Currently working as Consultant Radiation Oncology at CCC, KFMC, KSA. And carried the responsibility as Chairman of Radiation oncology Department 2012/2014
Comprehensive Cancer Centre is an independent center affiliated to KFMC. It is one of the biggest comprehensive cancer centre of its kind in MOH, KSA. The KFMC includes a broad array of medical services and its departments include: internal medicine, orthopedics, surgery with all sub-specialties, intensive care and recovery unit, diagnostic endoscopy, anesthesiology, nuclear medicine, radiology, cardiac center, neuroscience department and brain suit. The Hematology and Oncology Center include palliative care, radiation oncology, medical oncology hematology and pediatric oncology units with attached bone marrow/stem cell transplantation section, clinical pharmacy, clinical pathology and blood bank, a laboratory for surgical pathology, a laboratory for cytopathology, cancer registration and epidemiology unit, a department for tumor biology and an electron microscopy unit. The radiotherapy department is equipped with 2 linear accelerators multi-energies with 120 MMLCs, 2 simulators one of them is CT simulator. In addition the Department has a mould room and a brachytherapy unit with both low dose rate and high dose rate after loading for both interstitial and intra-cavitary techniques. In addition the Department equipped with stereotactic radiotherapy facilities, and IMRT. Two planning systems: ECLIPSE treatment planning system and Brain lab planning system licensed for SRS, SRT and IMRT. The medical physics department affiliated to CCC is highly equipped with full dosimetry and QA systems.
Job description I was the chairperson of the radiation oncology department defining the strategy of the work of the department and still leading the QA subcommittee and also leading the new cancer center radiation oncology department establishment; the new center will include the proton treatment which is the 1st of its kind in Africa and Middle East.
As consultant radiation oncology, I am responsible for attendance of the clinics, simulation settings, treatment planning target definition and inpatient follow up. I am one of the KFMC team who started on establishing the Radiation Oncology Department which includes IMRT, SRS, SRT, HDR, 3D RT and Virtual Simulation. The job includes also clinical and experimental research activities, as well as training of residents and students of faculty of medicine and Faculty of Applied Science graduate.
Currently working as director of the radiation oncology residency program at CCC, KFMC, KSA.
The radiation oncology residency program is a 5 year program for training of the radiation oncology residents including academic and practical training to radiation oncology also teaching a curricula for medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiographic anatomy, onco-pathology, clinical pharmacology, medical physics and treatment planning, radiobiology, biology and biostatistics. We are following the Can Med guidelines and standard and seeking for accreditation by different world wide bodies like FRCR; UK and Canadian Board. The program now identified by the FCPS
