Wahid Awad Bio

After successfully completing his PhD degree in Plant Breeding and Genetics from Colorado State University, USA, Wahid was hired as an Assistant Professor in the department of Crop Sciences, College of Agriculture, Cairo University, In July 2015.

In August 2011, Wahid joined Colorado State University as a PhD student in Plant Breeding and Genetics. Wahid served as a Teaching Assistant and a Research Assistant in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences. His dissertation is about Drought tolerance in Wheat. In CSU, Wahid was elected a Senator for the Graduate School, Vice President for the Graduate Student Council, Director of Graduate Student Affairs and nationally, as the Chair for the International Student Concerns Committee, National Association of Graduate-Professional Students (NAGPS).

Wahid participated in the Egyptian Revolution (25th of January 2011). He represented the Egyptian universities young staff as a co-founder and spokesperson for the Union of young Academic Staff (Egyptian Graduate Students Union), a union that made significant changes in the Egyptian higher education law. He serve as a minister of Planning and International Collaboration at the shadow cabinet in Egypt, since 2011.

In 2008, Wahid moved to the Netherlands to pursue a master degree in the field of Plant Biotechnology at Wageningen University, the Netherlands. My thesis was about Second Generation Biofuels from Maize Stover. In the summer of 2010 (June-October). He completed a graduate student internship at the University of Florida.

In 2000, Wahid joined Cairo University, Egypt to study a Bachelor degree in International Agriculture. After graduating with honor (highest GPA among all graduates). Wahid worked for a year as an Agricultural Engineer at an Egyptian Agricultural company “Tecnogreen”. After that, he joined the military for a year and a half and then was hired as a Teaching Assistant at the College of Agriculture, Cairo University.
