Assistant Professor

Dr. Tawfik Badawy is an associate professor of Thermo-Fluids in the School of Mechanical Engineering at Cairo University, Egypt. He received his BSc (2008) and MSc (2011) degrees from the Department of Mechanical Power at Cairo University. Tawfik received his PhD from the Mechanical School at University of Birmingham, UK (2017). Following his PhD, Tawfik worked as a research fellow at Brunel University for one year from December 2017. Then he moved to Loughborough University in 2019 as a research fellow for one year. Then he appointed as an associate lecturer in the Mechanical School at Cairo University, Egypt in January 2020. In addition, He has been recognized as an Associate Fellow of Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) with a recognition reference of PR159393 in 2020.

His research over the past 10 years focuses on the assessment of a production engine performance and particulate number emissions under different engine operating conditions. Furthermore, he has a wide experience in emission measurements using Horiba and DMS for both GDI and diesel engines. With more than 7 years' experience as an optical Engineering researcher, he is adept in Particle image velocimetry (PIV) application, Planar laser-induced fluorescence (PLIF), Laser-Induced Incandescence (LII), Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer (PDPA), High speed imaging and schlieren photography. His current research focuses on evaluating the effects of alternative biofuels on the performance and emissions of both gasoline and diesel engines. Dr. Tawfik has a track record in ICE and clean combustion research and in in this field, he has published 20 journal papers.
