Biography

Rowa Nabil is an Assistant Lecturer and PhD candidate at the Department of English Language and Literature, Cairo University. Her interdisciplinary research interrelates cultural politics, decoloniality, collective memory, and politics of subjectivity.

She concluded a master’s research project that examined protest songs as manifestations of youth artivism in the Arab world, highlighting the micro-mobilization function of artistic activism in the 2010-2013 popular movements.

Her current PhD research project proposes a transnational reading of self-referential prison narratives composed in the second half of the twentieth century in Egypt and the United States. Her research raises questions regarding the generic markers, discursive strategies, public pedagogy, and human rights in life narratives written in incarceration and/or after release.
