This is the post I am currently filling in Cairo University, Adult and Pediatric Ophthalmology units, through which I had the chance to gain, practice and upgrade all the academic and clinical skills concerning my specialty.
I am responsible for organizing and teaching the department’s interns and registrars in the basic sciences as well as clinical skills, adult and pediatrics ophthalmology.
The unite gives great care to audits, and I have been involved in some projects in a trial to improve the health care service given to the patients coming to the hospital.
One of Egypt’s leading Private-run hospitals, which provides Eye health care to both adults and pediatrics. The Hospital is a high ranked general hospital as well.
It is fully equipped for all ophthalmic major operations.
The hospital has regular visits of many foreign professors in different Ophthalmology subspecialties.
This is a specialized private-run center with two branches in ElHaram and 6th of October.
The center provides services for both adults and pediatrics. I work there as a consultant of pediatric ophthalmology. It is fully equipped for all minor and major clinical and surgical interferences.

In this post I upgraded my experience and was thoroughly trained to practice all the necessary skills and knowledge in Ophthalmology.
Working in this post I was introduced to much more advanced techniques and equipments in Ophthalmology. I learnt different examination skills using the slitlamp, indirect ophthalmoscope, direct ophthalmoscope, retinoscope, tonometry, specular microscopy, keratometry, ultrasonography, perimertry. I also acquired many surgical skills including Lid surgery: Entropion,Ectropion,laceration, Ptosis
• Lacrimal surgery: Probing, Intubation.
• Conjuctival surgery: Pterygium,conjunctival flap.
• Lens surgery: ECCE (extracapsular cataract extraction), Phacoemulsification, 2ry Implantation,Phakic IOLs, Lensectomy.
• Glaucoma surgery: Goniotomy, Trabeculotomy, Trabeculectomy, Valve Implant.
• Strabismus surgery: Recession, Resection, Hangback, Anteriorization, Tendon Expansion, Myectomy, Myotomy, Tucking.
I started my formal ophthalmology training working as an ophthalmology resident in the Cairo
University Hospitals. Training included scheduled rotations in main departments, Laser unit, Pediatric hospital and the French hospital.
At the end of this period of training I had completed my M.Sc essay, and successfully passed the exam. The title of my M.Sc essay was: Phakic Intraocular Lenses.

TEACHING
Throughout my career I have been actively involved in teaching. I enjoy teaching students, nurses, and trainee ophthalmologists in clinics and theaters. Moreover, delivery of formal lectures and tutorials forms a major part of my current job within the Faculty of Medicine of Cairo University. I teach candidates for the Egyptian M.Sc and MD, and supervise graduates during the preparation of their MD theses. I am also actively involved in teaching courses that our department organizes for foreign (visiting) doctors, and for doctors working in our Ministry of Health governmental hospitals.
Being an active participant in our department, Adult and Pediatric units, I am mainly dedicated to teaching various aspects of the specialty. I view education as an essential part of good medical practice and will continue to teach
enthusiastically during any post that I undertake.
