B.Sc. (1984) with honors; and M.Sc. (1987) Structural Engineering, Cairo University. PhD (1993) from The University of Western Ontario, Faculty of Engineering Sciences, CANADA, Civil Engineering. Currently Professor of Structural Engineering, Cairo University since June 2003. Over 39 years of experience in design and consulting for a number of international and local construction companies and engineering design firms. Most of these consultations were associated with major projects like long tunnels, cable-stayed and swing bridges, as well as tall buildings and industrial facilities. Several of these designs included research-related problems.
Research activities included supervising the research work leading to the Ph.D./M.Sc. degrees for over forty graduate students at Cairo University; publishing over 100 specialised technical papers, attending many conferences; and conducting industrial research in collaboration with the French University in Egypt. I also reviewed many papers for several international and local technical journals and conferences. My research and consulting expertise are best reflected in my contributions to the development of national design codes (“Egyptian code for design and construction of concrete structures: 1997-present”; and “Egyptian code for design and construction of bridges: 2012-present”.
Teaching experiences comprised developing and teaching several graduate and undergraduate courses including basic (e.g. “engineering statistics”, “structural theory” and “structural dynamics”); applied (e.g. “design of tall buildings” and “graduation project on design of reinforced concrete structures”); special (e.g. “earthquake engineering”; “dynamics of soil and foundation; and “soil-structure interaction”); and complementary (e.g. “technical report preparation” and “Seminar”) courses.
Contributed to the academic leading and administrative efforts when acted as Dean for the faculty of Engineering, Beni-Suef University, Egypt (2010-2012); Vice Dean for the High Institute for Engineering, Shorouk Academy, Shorouk City, Egypt (2013-2015); Director for the Development Research & Technological Planning Center (DRTPC)- Cairo University (2015-2017); and Dean for Higher Technological Institute (HTI) at 10th of Ramadan City and its two branches in 6 October City and Matrouh Governorate (2017-2022).
