Bio

Hi everyone!

My name is Omar Abdellatif Mahmoud Soliman. I received Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences (BVSc) from Cairo University in 2009 (Grade: Very good with honors, Rank: 7th/class of 600). I earned Masters of Veterinary Sciences (MVSc) in Clinical Pathology (Testing of nanomaterials in animal model). Currently, I am appointed as Assistant lecturer / PhD candidate at Department of Clinical Pathology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cairo University since April 2014 (Before, I was a teaching assistant since May 2010). In this position, I enjoy performing three main tasks: Research, Diagnostic Services (Veterinary Clinical Pathology) and Teaching.

Research

I love the words “Bio-” and “Nano-” whenever attached to a science discipline such as Biomedical sciences and engineering, Bionanotechnology, Bio-MEMS, Biomaterials, Biostatistics, Biochemistry, Biocoding, Nanomaterials … etc.

 My current research experiences comprise

- Nanomaterials’ preparation, characterization and testing their safety and efficacy (both in-vitro and in-vivo).

- Animal model for cancer as well as the theranostic role of gold nanoparticles.

- Photothermal therapy of cancers.

Those experiences honed through working as research assistant in multidisciplinary research projects -funded by STDF- in collaboration with renowned institutions in Egypt including:

- National Institute of Laser Enhanced Sciences (NILES),CairoUniversity.

- Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials Central Lab.,Agriculture Research Center.

- Yousef Jameel Science andTechnology Research Center at the American University in Cairo.

In April 2016, I was fortunate to get a scholarship from the Ministry of Higher Education in Egypt to pursue 6 months research training at Harvard/MIT Health Sciences and Technology where I am working on projects related to Tissue engineering and Smart Drug Delivery Systems and Nanotheranostics.

Diagnostic Services

A part of my job is to perform routine analysis of biological samples (blood, urine, stool, milk …) referred to the department’s diagnostic lab. from faculty’s teaching hospital, private pet clinics and livestock farms as well as research cooperation. Techniques for analysis involve hematology, biochemistry, cytology, molecular biology. I hold ISO/IEC 17025 internal auditor certification from SGS, Egypt and now preparing the lab. for accreditation.

Teaching commitment

I enjoy interaction with students for knowledge transfer. Interactive practical sessions (Clinical Pathology course no. 454 for undergraduate 4th level students), Summer training as well as Field cure trips give me the opportunity for such an interaction.

Other interests

- Information and Communication Technology (ICDL Expert certificate 2010, VBA and VB.NET programming, Director of VetSMS project for processing and publishing students’ results)

 - Business Administration (Certificate of Achievement in Human Resources Management, Business Administration from School of Continuing Education, American University in Cairo)

 - Biostatistics (Harvard Medical School ICRT program graduate, 2015)

 - Scientific writing

 - Traveling for knowledge enhancement
