Bio

Ola Hafez is Professor of linguistics at the English Department, Faculty of Arts, Cairo University. She is a linguist, teacher, and teacher trainer. She’s been educated at Cairo University, Lancaster University and University of California in Los Angeles. Ola chaired the English Department from Dec. 2014 to Jan. 2018. She has held teaching positions at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University, Dammam, Saudi Arabia, the American University in Cairo as well as Cairo University.  She’s taught discourse analysis, sociolinguistics, research methodology, semantics and pragmatics, teaching methodology, and various other linguistics courses. She was involved in creating a new PhD program at IAU, and in revamping the EFL curricula and teacher training at the AUC. She was also one of the founders and presidents of NileTESOL. She has published more than 45 papers and textbooks. Her research areas include discourse analysis, language teaching and learning and various areas of linguistics. She has supervised more than 40 MA and PhD theses and dissertations and examined 40 more in several Arab countries. She’s also refereed research for publication and for promotion, and has received a number of scholarships and awards herself. She has also given dozens of presentations and workshops at local, regional and international conferences on various areas of ELT.
