Osman Ahmed received the B.Sc. degree in electronics and communications engineering [with distinction (honors)] and M.Sc. degree in engineering physics from Cairo University, Giza, Egypt in 2005, and 2009 respectively. From 2009 to 2013, he worked as a research assistant with the Computational Electromagnetics Research Laboratory (CEML), McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He earned the Ph.D. degree in June 2013 from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, McMaster University. Dr. Ahmed is a recipient of CLIFTON W. SHERMAN prestigious scholarship (2010) for doctoral studies in science and engineering from McMaster University. He also received the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) award in 2012. In 2013, Dr. Ahmed has received the NSERC (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada) Post Doctoral Fellowship. In September 2013, Dr. Ahmed has joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada as an NSERC Post-Doctoral Fellow. His research interests include characterization of nonlinear optical effects in complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) compatible materials, optimization of nano-plasmonic devices, optical interconnects and biosensors.
