Mohamed Meshref is a Professor of Clinical Oncology in the faculty of medicine – Cairo University. He also is a consultant Oncologist in the faculty of medicine –CairoUniversitycancer centre ( NEMROCK). He has been trained in Cairo where he received his Msc and MD degrees in Clinical Oncology and in Lyon –France were he worked at Centre Leon Berard. He also received his diploma of specialization and PhD in Hematology/Oncology from the University of Lyon – France. He was also one of Oncologists responsible in the set up of new Oncology Cancer centres in Egyptian MOH – Aswan Cancer centre – where he was responsible for setting up the patient flow systems and protocols as well as being part of the administrative management group for the centre.
Dr. Meshref was also heavily involved with research work in Oncology, being a graduate of Flims and an investigator for many major pharmaceutical companies. He also holds a postgraduate certification in healthcare marketing and hospital management and has also finished a management MBA from the US. He was also till recently a practicing physician in his private clinic where he consulted on regular basis.
Since end of 2008, he was appointed as the Middle East and North West Africa Medical director of Eli-Lilly pharmaceutical company which is one of the biggest multinational companies working in the field of Oncology, Diabetes and Neuroscience and which also has large investments in Egypt and the region. He is also responsible for controlling the large medical / regulatory budget. He then move to Dubai to be the regional medical director for the Middle East , Turkey and Africa at Boehringer – Ingelheim , one of the top 15 multinational pharmaceutical companies . In this role he is responsible for a large medical and regulatory team consisting of 5 department and 150 employees spread out in 8 offices across the region.
Since 2005 and till 2010, Dr Meshref was also the Middle East representative on the American Society of Clinical Oncology International committee, responsible on the ASCO educational courses and grants in the region and an ASCO speaker. Through his involvement with ASCO and the South and East School of Oncology , he was involved in setting up several educational specialized workshops across the Middle East.In the past few years he is focusing his scientific activities in helping to set up research centres in Oncology centre's in Egypt as well as being a review and co-editor is several scientific journals.
