Mahmoud Gharib Disoky El-Sherbiny was born on October 8, 1946. He received a B.Sc. degree with honours from Cairo University, Egypt, in 1968, an M.Sc. from Cairo University on a cooperation program with the University of Denmark in Copenhagen in 1972, and a PhD degree from the Department of Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Salford, U.K., in 1975. He joined the Department of Mechanical Design and Production Engineering at Cairo University in 1968 and was promoted to Professor of Machine Design and Engineering Tribology in 1986. During this session, he was on leave as a research assistant at the Technical University of Denmark in 1971, as a research associate at Salford University, UK, 1973-1975, as a Postdoctoral Research fellow at Loughborough University of Technology, UK, 1975-1976, and as a professor at King Abdulaziz University, KSA, 1980-1986.
He acted as a counselor to both the Ministries of higher education and of trade and industry during 2002-2010. He won several awards, including the State Prize for Engineering Science 1980, the First Class Science Decoration of EGYPT 1981, the Arab Organization for Industrialization Award for the Best Industrial Project 1997, the Cairo University Appreciation Award in Engineering Science 2009, and the Cairo University Distinction Award for Advanced Technological Science 2010. Won the Egyptian State Award for Distinction in Engineering Science 2014, and the first-class Science decoration of Egypt for the second time in 2015.
He won the state Appreciation Award and a certificate of merit for his achievements in Engineering Sciences in 2014.
Dr El-Sherbiny holds 11 registered patents and has recorded 7 Industrial models with full intellectual property rights.
